In the world of life, love, laughter, lamentations, laborious situations, and lack of entertainment, there's one thing that remains constant amongst the peaks of highs and lows, and that's family. Even with all the fraught and lies, deceit and denial, desperation and decisions that we all go through year after year, day after day, we all have a family, whether we're close with them or not. Family is usually the anchor for all the vacillations we flow through from childhood to adulthood and beyond. The key word in this sentence is usually, because although it would be nice to have an anchor in life, not everyone is gifted such a luxury. Some people grow up without the stability and foundation of a good family, which can be heartbreaking, but it is in fact reality. 

In the story below, the protagonist is a teenager whose mother has passed away. His father remarried a woman rather quickly, and he hasn't known her very long.
